Kids can help the environment by learning how to recycle. This simple process helps the environment by reusing materials rather than having them pollute the environment by sitting in a landfill. When kids learn how to recycle, they are serving a great benefit to the environment by reducing the amount of pollution that gets into the atmosphere. These pollutants contribute to the destruction of the ozone layer and create smog in the air we all breathe.

Kids can be taught to go green from an early age. They should suggest that their parents learn to carpool. This helps the environment by reducing the amound of carbon dioxide that is released into the atmosphere. When kids teach their parents to carpool, they are helping our environment by going green. Additionally, kids should start a recycling program at home. Many homes do not recycle yet they should. It is not very difficult to purchase some recycling trash bins so that you can separate materials in a quick and easy manner. Then, you put all the recycling bins so that the trash men can put your materials into separate compartments. These easy steps are some ways that kids can help the environment or go green.

Did you know that Portland, Oregon is listed as one of top ten greenest cities to live in? That says a lot about this beautiful area and everyday more and more people are realizing what great things this community offers. To be considered part of the top ten, there are several things that need to be in place. Of course clean air and water are two of the top things on the list and Portland does a good job in both those areas and the public enjoys the benefits by being able to breath freely and know they have quality clean air.I was looking for more information and found it here. Farmers markets can be seen throughout the community on different days of the week and this is another reason they received the honor of being in the top ten. While in the area, it is easy to catch the vision this community has for the sustainable trend that is so popular. Most people in Portland would agree that living in a green community and making sure they limit their carbon footprint is high on their priority list.

Portland residents are encouraged to lower their thermostats in the winter, unplug appliances when not in use, wash clothes in cold water, and use a drying rack. All these things are simple and things people can do as their part to keep the community green.

There are some easy ways to ease into being greener and you can start with…
Recycle Electronics: Instead of tossing that old laptop or keyboard consider taking it to a responsible recycler near you. They can dispose of the product properly and repurpose any of the old parts that may be best used in another device.
Change Your Lightbulbs: Switch all your household lightbulbs to CFLs and watch the savings add up. Many energy providers are literally giving them away and even if you have to buy them rest assured you’re saving money and the environment.
Turn off the Tap: When you’re brushing your teeth or shaving, turn off the tap to conserve water. You can save up to 200 gallons a year just by making this simple change!
Eat Local: If you’ve got a farmer’s market or farm stand nearby make a concerted effort to buy local produce. It’s better for the planet and studies have found it to be healthier, too.

If you are not sure what exactly is the green movement, you are among a group of people still learning how to define it into their own every day lives. The green movement is a coined phrase for the change the world is trying to make in order to conserve and protect our environment by lessening the effect of toxins and progress. Every job, every home is trying to find ways to create a life that uses less chemical for cleaning, food production and transportation.

A few of the ways changes are being made are by recycling. Paper can be recycled into new paper products for printers, books, napkins, newspapers and many other uses. Plastic is recycled in to products like children’s play equipment and clothing for winter wear and bedding. Transportation is being researched for ways to move about our world without leaving behind carbon toxins or depleting our earth’s natural resources. That is why many people have turned to riding bicycles more often, riding small motorized transportation and limiting travel on a daily basis. The green movement is taking responsibility to protect nature and provide plant life and fresh air in any way possible by creating new life, greening fields and small garden, saving everything we can and reusing everything we have. By creating less we save on how it is made and our world becomes a little healthier each day.

If you have been keeping up with the news, you probably know World Environment Day falls on June 5th of this year. Chances are pretty good you have given at least some thought with regard to where your garbage ends up, or the cleanliness of the water you are drinking. However, if you are like most, you probably wonder what exactly your part is in doing something to remedy the situation.

The easiest way to make a difference is in the types of products you purchase. For instance, with a minimum investment, you could purchase aerators for installation on each of your taps, where the benefit will be realized not just in the smaller water bill, but also in the reduction of water you waste.

You could also make a point to buy only products that use recycled packaging, are in themselves recyclable, or products that are permanent and only require refills, versus those that have to be disposed of in their entirety, as in the case of plastic razors. You should also use only unbleached coffee filters, rechargeable batteries and plant based household cleaners.

Making the decision to purchase these types of items will greatly reduce the amount of waste that ends up in the landfill as well as the amount of toxic substances you are releasing into the environment. The information party rocks on: World Environment Day: Cross River to plant 5m trees

Follow these 10 simple tips to reduce your carbon footprint. Your carbon footprint is determined by the amount of greenhouse gases you are directly responsible for releasing into the environment. Every person must take responsibility for their carbon footprint.

1- Leave the car at home and walk or ride a bike whenever possible. Use public transportation or join a carpool to get to work or school.

2- Buy green cleaning products instead of the products made with toxic chemicals.

3- Commit to recycling. There are numerous recycling centers that will actually pay for the recycled product.

4- Use cold water to wash clothes. Heating water takes a lot of energy.

5- Buy organic foods that have been grown locally.

6- Make your home more energy efficient. Use energy efficient appliances.

7- Forego plastic water bottles. This adds unnecessary trash to the landfills. Use a reusable bottle instead.

8- Purchase products that have minimal packaging. This reduces the amount of garbage sent to the landfill.

9- Use reusable shopping bags instead of the flimsy plastic bags that are polluting the earth.

10- Unplug anything that is not in use. Phone chargers, coffee makers and toasters draw electricity even when not being used.
